Faithful

Faithful

God-is-faithfulI know it has been very quiet on the blog. We were in a holding pattern as far as the adoption process goes. That undefined period of waiting, where you don’t know the progress of your paperwork, you have no control over how quickly things will move (or not), and you have no idea HOW LONG you will be waiting.

The passage of Scripture we had been given in May (when we were waiting to hear if we would be allowed to host M again in the summer) was BE STILL and know that I am God. And in this time of waiting, we held onto that promise again, because we knew that the God of Angel Armies was fighting on our behalf. We were not in control, but He always is.

We could trust through a quiet Christmas that He was working. We could face a New Year with the knowledge that God would see us through. We could find the strength to fill out more grant applications and begin fundraising again, knowing that He would provide. We would wait for our once-a-week one hour Skype conversation with M, bursting to tell her, “Sweetie, we are coming! We don’t know when and we don’t know how, but we love you! We are coming to bring you home! Hold on!” But we had to BE STILL.

And in God’s infinite wisdom and in His perfect timing, we received our referral–that piece of paper that gives you permission to adopt from your child’s home country.

Exactly one year ago, we were in an airport, saying goodbye to M after Christmas hosting. She was not cleared for adoption, and we were told she might never be. We wondered “What was all of this for?” We had to put her on the plane not knowing if we would ever see her again. But there was a whisper in my spirit that our journey with M was not over.

One year later, to the day, we had the approval to adopt M.

And now, our journey is just beginning.

Standing on this mountaintop
Looking just how far we’ve come
Knowing that for every step
You were with us

Kneeling on this battle ground
Seeing just how much You’ve done
Knowing every victory
Is Your power in us

Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes, our hearts can say

Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful, God, You are faithful

Carried by Your constant grace
Held within Your perfect peace
Never once, no, we never walk alone

Every step we are breathing in Your grace
Evermore we’ll be breathing out Your praise
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
You are faithful, God, You are faithful
